Here it comes, like a flying Ikran, soaring into our lives again. Eight years after the release of the biggest global box office movie of all time, James Cameron's Avatar is far from over.

Not only are we getting four new movies set in the world of Pandora, but we're also going to be able to read all about it in the upcoming series from Dark Horse Comics -- and you can check out the first couple of pages below, exclusive to Mashable.

As Cameron announced at New York Comic Con 2015, the Avatarcomic – written by Sherri L. Smith – will present story arcs from points all over the Pandora timeline.

Some will take place before the events of the movie, some will occur after, and some might even take place in tandem with the tale we already know.

The first issue of this long-awaited series will be available on May 6th, 2017 – Free Comic Book Day – but you don't have to wait until then to get a little taste of what's to come.

In the pages below, blue-skinned Jake Sully is on the back of an Ikran once again, taking flight over the beautiful landscape of the planet he now calls home.

It looks as though Earth is far from Sully's mind, and that he's fully embraced his Na'vi form.

Why hasn't Avatarappeared in comic-book form before? It may be something of a risk to take such a vivid on-screen world, created in state-of-the-art 3D CGI -- and transpose it to the flat page.

Still, this title appears to be in good hands with artists Doug Wheatley and Wes Dzioba, and we'll be looking forward to seeing more of their stunning work on Free Comic Book Day.

Until then, check out the pages below.
