The 30-year-old former Marine wanted for shooting an Idaho pastor who had appeared at a Ted Cruz campaign rally over the weekend was arrested Tuesday night in Washington, D.C., after throwing items over the White House fence, reports say. (The pastor, Tim Remington, gave a blessing at a Cruz rally on Saturday and was shot six times Sunday in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, but is expected to survive.) The shooting suspect, Kyle Odom, has a history of mental illness and is believed to have recently posted a paranoid message about aliens to Facebook. From CNN:

In it, he says the world is ruled by “an ancient civilization from Mars,” describing Remington as “one of them.” He says he has no time to share his story but will do so in future.

“Pastor Tim was one of them, and he was the reason my life was ruined,” the Facebook post connected to Odom said. “I will be sharing my story with as many people as possible.”

Odom also sent flash drives and a document of claims about aliens and mind control to several media outlets. He’s reported to have thrown flash drives over the White House fence as well.

From an Idaho/Washington-area ABC affiliate:

Coeur d’Alene Police Chief Lee White said that Odom drove from Coeur d’Alene to Boise and caught a flight in Boise and traveled across the country to Washington, DC. It’s not known, White said, how Odom, who had an active felony warrant for his arrest, was able to purchase a ticket and fly across the country.

Odom has a biochemistry degree from the University of Idaho and was honorably discharged from the Marines.
